The Klaffi team was run by ex-Sidecar World Champion, Klaus Klaffenbock. Alex Barros, one of the most experienced MotoGP riders at the time, joined Klaffi for the 2006 season. Riding their CBR1000 RR, he lead the team to victory in Race 1 at Imola and ended the season in 6th place, the 2nd highest Honda rider.
